My daughter had given me some pictures to me recently that she had found. I took alot of pictures in my travels across the U.S. I found this pic of a day cab cabover Kenworth pulling this long trailer. This was taken in California somewhere. I used to run California back in 86 through the 90's. I remember what truck I was driving at the time I took this pic so that would be around 87 88. I have no idea how long the trailer was. Looks to me to be 60 ft or better? Anyone seen these besides me? Might have hauled plastic bottles? Glass bottles? Something light wouldn't ya think?

I live on the SF Bay Area and Dirksen Transportation runs 57' foot trailers with a cabover day cab. They look very long when they drive next to you on the freeway. Here's their link: www.dirktrans.com/Craig

Thanks Craig, Thats cool. I knew they we're a heck of alot longer than the 48 I was pulling and that was some time ago. I actually forgot about them untill I saw the pic again. Now answer me this. Are they #80,000 Lb trucks? Or because of the length, are they less?

My guess is they can go up to 80,000 LBS, since that is the max for this type of set up in California. You would need a permit for anything heavier.
I've never had the opportunity to stop one of these trucks, so I'm not sure if they are over the California max combination length of 65 feet. Either way, due to the KPRA distance, I'm sure these trucks are restricted to STAA routes only. Craig

If "I" was driving that rig by the time "I" got out of the cab, got to the rear of the trailer, it would have been soooo long that I would have forgotten what in the world I was doing back there!!!
